Travel Talkers Toastmasters–Adventures in South America

Our Open House meeting on Thursday, October 24 included 9 members and 6 guests. The meeting theme was Adventures in South America. We invited former members and guests to join us for Travel Topics, to guess the Mystery Destination, and to hear Tym Myers speech about his adventures in South America.

Kit Myers was the Destination Master for the meeting. She presented these clues for a city in South America:

  • This city is surrounded by mountains and beaches. The famous mountains are Sugar Loaf and Corcovado. The famous beaches are Copa Cabana and Ipanema.
  • The city is know for its lush, humid, and exotic tropical location.
  • It is the second largest city in the largest country in South America.

If you guessed Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, you are correct!

The featured speaker for our meeting was Tym Myers who shared his adventures in South America. During his years as a commercial airline captain with American Airlines he regularly flew into 10 of the largest countries and 22 of the largest cities in South America. What was his favorite? Montevideo, Uruguay. Perhaps one of the lesser known places to visit in South America, but after Tym’s speech we were ready to book a trip to Montevideo to enjoy the art museums, the uncrowded beaches, the scenic wine valleys, and the grilled chicken, beef and pork served at street fairs and restaurants throughout the country.

Meghan Burns was our Travel Topics Master for the meeting. She provided a slide with pictures and topics inspired by South America for our members and guests to use during their turn at Travel Topics.

The theme of our October 31 meeting is “Scary Trips.” Join the Travel Talkers group for a fun evening sharing your adventures. Our meetings are for all travel enthusiasts. Engage with fellow members as we share our stories about traveling. Focus on your public speaking skills and get valuable feedback in a supportive Toastmasters-style environment. The meeting is on Thursday, October 31st from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm Pacific time.
