Travel Talkers Toastmasters–Discount Trips

The theme of our November 16th meeting was Discount Trips. Our Travel Topics questions were provided by Carlette Curry and asked by Kit Myers. We explored the advantages of comfort over economy in accommodations and in restaurants, with Tym telling us that comfort always comes first in his travel plans. Samantha shared that her bargain trips are to National Parks for camping. And Sini saves money on travel by visiting local parks and becoming a docent/tour guide at the Natural Bridges State Beach in Santa Cruz, California when the monarch butterflies are migrating. Megan commented that she prefers hotels to AirBnB accommodations, but she does save money by shopping at local markers and making her own dinners.

Our Destination Master was Vernitta Brown. She gave us these clues:

  • The location is an Island in the Caribbean
  • Is was once known as Watling Island
  • Some believe that Christopher Columbus landed on this Island on October 12, 1492
  • The island is the top of a massive limestone out cropping
  • Divers come to this island to see the fish, shipwrecks, reefs, and ruins

If you guessed San Salvador Island, the Bahamas, you are correct!

Our speaker, Tym Myers, is working on his Level 1 projects in the Toastmasters educational program. He presented his Icebreaker speech by revising a speech he made as guest at the March 30th club meeting. Tim’s speech provided photos and memories of “One Fantastic Vacation” –18 days in France and Paris ending with his final flight as an airline pilot with American Airlines. The details of the places he visited, in France and in Paris, were accompanied by a slideshow of photos. The highlight of the trip and the speech, was the dinner in Paris on the last night of the trip with 23 family and friends, the cabin crew, and the flight crew from his final trip to Paris as a pilot for American Airlines.

Join us for our next meeting on November 30th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm Pacific (-7 UTC). The meeting theme is Meet the Family. Are you planning a trip to meet family this holiday season?
